Annecy is located 22 miles south of Geneva in the Rhone-Alps region in the North of the French Alps and it is known as the Venice of Savoie. The medieval town centre built around a 14^th century Chateau is dissected by small canals and streams running out of Lake Annecy, which is clean, fresh and has a wonderful azure color.

Annecy presents itself as a medieval town, once part of the county of Geneva and later on being integrated into the House of Savoy. The biggest attraction the town has to offer is Le Palais de I’lle, which was used as a prison.

There are three ways to get to the Venice of Savoie. The best and easiest of course is to take a flight from Paris-Orly airport which will take you straight to Annecy.

Events

Annecy is one of the best vacationing spots all year round. The annual events start with the lake marathon in April and continue in the summer with the Sunday evenings of picnics and music. From October autumn sets in and the town celebrates the ending of summer with the Italian Film Fest and the return of the dairy herds.

Annecy is located between Geneva and Chambery. Thus its history was strongly influenced by these two towns between the 10^th and the 19^th century, at first being part of Geneva’s territory and then being integrated into the House of Savoy.

Chateau d’Annecy

Listed as a historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture, the restored castle dominates the old French town of Annecy. Today after seeing more than 5 centuries of history, the castle has been transformed into a museum.
